Celebrating the life of
Frederick (Tom) Thomas Scholl Jr.
April 08, 1940 - November 10, 2024
Frederick (Tom) Thomas Scholl Jr., born on April 8, 1940, at the Telfair Hospital in Savannah, GA, passed away peacefully under the compassionate care of At Home Quality Comfort Care in Port Wentworth, GA, with the support of Suncare Hospice, especially Boukje Gijstra-Mims.
Tom was predeceased by his beloved wife, Diane (Edrington) Scholl; his son, Ryan Scholl; and his parents, Frederick T. Scholl Sr. and Catherine “Wootton” Scholl.
He is survived by his son, Frederick “Rick” Scholl III (Judith); aunt, Janet Goethe; sisters Katherine “Lyle” Hammond, Jane Kessler (Greg), and Julia McElroy; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Tom cherished his many friends and the Tybee Island community, which he held close to his heart.
Tom spent his early life in Savannah before moving with his family to Atlanta. Following his marriage to Diane, he returned to Tybee Island, where they raised their two sons, Rick and Ryan. A dedicated professional, Tom retired as a marketing consultant from Bell South and AT&T. He was also a retired member of the Tybee Island Fire Department, serving as an arson investigator, exemplifying his commitment to the safety and well-being of his community. He was also active in the Tybee Island Marine Rescue Squadron, Tybee Island Jaycee’s and the St. Michael Catholic Church.
Tom resided at 175 Lewis Avenue, Tybee Island, for 45 years, fostering deep connections with friends and neighbors before entering care. His legacy of kindness, devotion to family, and service to his community will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
A Memorial Service will be held at a time to be determined in February 2025 at the St. Michaels Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers the family has suggested that donations be made to Suncare Hospice.
